ZTE debuts its U350, the world first TD-SCDMA/GSM dual-mode mobile

HongKong, December 4, 2006 - ZTE, a leading global provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions, is displaying dozens of newly developed mobile phones at ITU Telecom World 2006 including HSDPA mobiles, TV mobiles, the V882 3G mobile just 14.9mm thick and the TD U80 TD-SCDMA/GSM dual-mode phone with typical 3G service features. The ZTE e700, a GSM high-end smart mobile with GPS positioning and QR code identification will also make its debut.

A special show space at the ZTE stand is reserved for the company's dual-mode mobiles including CDMA/GSM and TD/GSM models, demonstrating the overall strength of ZTE in dual-mode mobiles.

Multi-mode handsets will become the industry standard as they solve the problems of travelling from one region or country to others with different communications standards, and also help bridge the integration of 2G, 3G and even 4G networks.

ZTE has one of the world's largest ranges of mobile phone products. Its extensive research and development experience of GSM, CDMA, and PHS as well as the three main 3G standards has enabled production of a wide series of models, and a strong capability in terminal integration. ZTE has dozens of dual-mode terminal patents which provide a firm foundation for large scale handset customisation for customers.

ZTE launched the U350, the world's first TD-SCDMA/GSM dual-mode mobile earlier this year, creating a platform at the terminal level for users to realise the transition from 2G to 3G.

The ZTE U80, a recently developed TD-SCDMA/GSM dual-mode mobile providing typical 3G service features supports video phoning as well as streaming media and Java downloads, and provides a big improvement on normal data transmission rates.

ZTE has also launched more than 10 types of UMTS/GSM/GPRS multi-mode mobile, including the V882, an ultra-slim mobile just 14.9mm thick which will also be on show.

The ZTE H500, one of the most notable CDMA/GSM multi-mode mobiles, has won awards including the World Wind Series from China Unicom. It has four kinds of standby mode enabling dual calls in GSM, CDMA, GSM/CDMA (GSM prior), and CDMA/GSM (CDMA prior) mode. So if users are on a call on a CDMA network and receive a second call from a GSM network (or vice versa), the mobile can automatically detect which network the second call comes from, and the user does not have to manually switch between the networks.

"We are fully prepared for every possible multi-mode requirement, so whichever mobiles the market needs, dual-mode or multi-mode, we can go quickly into development and manufacturing," said Mr. He Shiyou, SVP of ZTE Corporation and General Manager of Handset Division.
