Sunday finally arrived. I was sitting alone in a cafe, browsing websites on my Macbook Pro when a lady nearby approached me and softly spoke “can you get online?” After a moment’s surprise, I nodded yes. She frowned and murmured, “I thought the wireless network here was disconnected. Now it seems there is a problem with my laptop.” I smiled and told her that I did not use the wireless network here; instead, I used the 3G network. To her amazement I took an MF30 wireless router from my bag.
MF30 is a “pebble” with smooth lines that can be used as an access point (AP). It provides Wi-Fi signals so that surrounding laptops can connect to the Internet. Normally, wireless routers require broadband connection and supporting power; but the MF30 can access the Internet via a 3G network and does not always need a power source. The four indicator lights in the front display the power meter, network signal, output transmission, and Wi-Fi signal. Even without instructions, I can use it to connect my Macbook Pro to the network.
Initially, I did not expect too much from the MF30 since broadband is almost everywhere. It was after a few fieldwork experiences that my team and I took a fancy to this little piece of equipment. When we carry out geological explorations, on-site transmission of data is often necessary. In the past, we inserted a data card in the laptop, which also required software installation and commissioning. With the introduction of MF30, our work efficiency has been greatly improved. After installing a 3G mobile SIM card into it, the computer can access the Internet without performing any other operations, and it even works in a bag.
While my mind was still wandering, the stranger seemed embarrassed to ask whether she could share my network to deal with an urgent matter. I could not refuse her. I gave her my MF30 password so she could log onto the Internet and do her work. As I was surfing the Internet, my mind was on her. Very soon, she came to thank me and asked for my number, saying that one day she’d invite me to dinner. I graciously accepted, but understood what my friends say is true: me and MF30 were already a match made in heaven!

What a bad weekend! I was enjoying sunshine in the cafe when my boss phoned, requesting me to create a presentation and send it to him. Does he not know what day it is?
After some time, I finished the work! As I started to transfer the files and I looked around me. The man across the table seemed to be a nice guy. And he had the same Macbook laptop as mine. I was observing him, but I did not know that my computer had become disconnected from the public wireless access connection. The files had not been completely transferred. I had to find somewhere else to get the job done. As I got up to leave, I found that he was still using the Internet. I ventured to ask him “can you get online?” My voice was smaller than a mosquito. He nodded and took out a beautiful piece of technology that I had never seen before. It turned out that he was using this to get online.
I asked whether he could do me a favor. Then I shared his network connection and continued to transfer files. To my great surprise, the transmission speed was even faster than that of the broadband in the cafe. In a few minutes, the files had been uploaded completely. This thing was really handy! Before I left, I got the man’s phone number as pretext to asking him to dinner for his help. In fact, my main purpose was to ask him to take me to the place where he bought his wireless router!
