Future–Oriented Sustainable Network Implementation

Mobile telecom market is booming during fierce competition, new demands and technologies continuously emerge, network upgrade and evolution go faster and faster. It seems that network investment becomes a bottomless hole. In this case, ZTE SDR-based Uni-RAN solution protects operators’ investments, reduces construction costs and realizes sustainable evolution.

1. Multi-Mode Multi-Frequency-Band Networking

Software Defined Radio Technology: It enables one RF unit to support multi radio modes within the same frequency band, which is also called “in-band multi-mode networking”. At different frequency bands, multi-mode hybrid networking is achieved by several RF units sharing the same baseband unit, namely “out-band multi-mode networking”, which effectively integrates multi-frequency-band and multi-mode network, decreasing TCO greatly.

Unified MicroTCA Hardware Platform: SDR-based Node B adopts unified MicroTCA platform to achieve high integrity and processing capacity. This platform minimizes base station’s dimension and optimizes its performance, BBU DL data throughput reaches 216 Mbps and UL 75 Mbps, which not only meets the requirement of multi-mode networking, but also suffices the demands to smoothly evolve to future HSPA+/LTE network.

MCPA Technology: MCPA multi-carrier PA module utilizes broadband RF technology that one PA module supports multi-path RF, enhancing system integrity and capacity and making it possible to realize multi-mode networking in the same RF unit. Single RF unit of a SDR-based Node B supports 4CS UMTS or 6TRX GSM, and also realizes CS & TRX flexible configuration between UMTS and GSM.

CO-NMS: Different modes and frequency bands share the unified network management system with identical interface, configuration and maintenance.

2. Software Upgrade, Smooth Evolution

HSPA+ Upgrade: Evolution from HSPA to HSPA+ only requires software upgrade without any alteration in hardware, and its download rate reaches 21.6 Mbps;

LTE Evolution: SDR-based Node B is enabled to evolve to LTE only by adding LTE baseband processing board and relevant RF module, together with software upgrade, 150 Mbps download rate is available, and network throughput is improved greatly.

ZTE Uni-RAN solution helps operators to implement 2G/3G convergence, unified management and maintenance, cutting down TCO and saving over 30% of construction costs. It simplifies network upgrade and realizes real smooth evolution, which extends lifespan of equipments and protects operators’ investments, ensuring network stability and reliability, improving networking operation efficiency. It assists operators to keep better revenue in such fierce competition.
