The Republic of Sierra Leone, located in the West Africa, has about 485 kilometers coastline. The Sierra Leone has numerous rivers. It has tropical monsoon climate with high temperatures and rains. Because of its unique geographical characteristics, the country has huge demands in the field of telecommunication transmission links over the sea. Compared to the high cost satellite transmission, ZTE digital microwave communications equipment is highly cost-effective and is outstanding for over the waters transmission .It provides a stable and reliable transmission for the local communications network.
Millicom is a multinational mobile operator in Belgium, owning nearly 10 million users. Tigo, it’s subsidiary, established in 2001,is the second largest mobile operator in Sierra Leone. In 2006, for the GSM project, ZTE won the project for microwave transmission and had been cooperating with Millicom for three years.

Because of the high temperature and rainy marine climate, Sierra needs numerous microwave links over the sea, which is a challenge to ZTE planning and design, equipment quality, and construction management.
In the Link design, the Space Diversity (SD) technology is used to suppress the problem of multipath interference. Good results were gained in the Solution which used ZXMW PR10 PDH equipments, with 7G bandwidth, 16E1 capacity, 1+1 Hot Standby,1.2 meters antenna and SD configuration.
The Receive level of the equipment is -39dB. The availability rate reaches 99.99999%.
ZTE microwave indoor equipments are tested strictly with high and low temperatures. ZTE microwave outdoor equipments is waterproof and provide the ability of anti-corrosion. Excellent adaptive equipment withstands the climate tests, such as typhoon and high-temperature.

The design and implementation of link over the sea saves the cost of leased communications satellite, and reduces the customer’s CAPEX.
Microwave equipment has excellent adaptation to the environment, and operation stability. These benefits increase the customer satisfaction.
