In March of 2009, CSL, the tier 1 operator in Hong Kong, selected ZTE Corporation’s UMTS/HSPA+ equipment and constructed global largest HSPA+ network with the DL peak data rate up to 21Mbps, which caused a great sensation in Hong Kong telecom communication market. Even so far, such sensation doesn’t cease. However, only half year later, on Sep. 12, 2009, CSL re-cooperated with ZTE Corporation and jointly held LTE service demo news conference. It demonstrated both the industry and the public LTE service with up-to-150Mbps DL rate and promised to start LTE (Long Term Evolution) commercial construction in 2010. CSL first opens the curtain evolving toward LTE era in the industry.
CSL lies in Hong Kong where the wireless environment is encompassed with extremely fierce competition. So CSL selecting ZTE Corporation as its UMTS/LTE strategy cooperation partner, and constructing the global first dual-mode and dual-band revolutionary LTE network must have its valid reason.
According to mobile communication development trend, 2G, 3G and LTE networks will mutually co-exist in a long period. Under such circumstance, it should be a sea of troubles for operators to hold invincible position in the new round of competition. Telecom industry market competition is more and more fierce, 3G is of high investment while imperfect income, and moreover, global financing crises cause negative effect. Many problems are thereby further intensified: including lessened investment affected by economic crisis, increasingly reduced ARPU (Average Revenue Per User), expensive OPEX caused by equipment ageing, etc. Operators need to consider more and more factors including how to decrease TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) and protect investment, how to improve service competition and profit-making potential, how to flexibly and simply operate and maintain their equipment, and how to make LTE networks compatible with others.
ZTE Corporation strongly rolls out industry leading SDR-based Uni-RAN solution as well as LTE solution, energetically helps operator to solve the above-mentioned problems and assists operators to take the preemptive opportunity in the new competition.
Smooth Evolution Unified Maintenance TCO-Saving

With the increasing evolution of air interface access technology, operators face the challenge of “not only properly deploy the existing network but also keep compatible with future standard”. The hardware that can not be upgraded when deploying new technology network always had to be replaced before or new equipment should be added. Especially for LTE, the air interface employing revolutionary OFDM technology causes the existing equipment may be totally replaced. In order to maximally reduce the risk brought by basic architecture upgrade while lower TCO to great extent, ZTE Corporation pushes multi-network converged Uni-RAN concept and SDR serial soft base station suitable for multi-system co-existence.

Smooth Evolution, Multi-Mode Supported, Seamless Convergence
Energy-Efficient, Environment Protection, OPEX-Saving
With multi-system networks’ deployment, resources like site, machine room and space become more and more limited and sometimes it is a problem for operator to seek proper site and room. ZTE LTE base station successfully solves these problems no matter in installation space acquisition or rapid deployment
Compact Design, Energy Saving, Lower OPEX
Distributed BBU+RRU featuring in small size and light weight are easy for deployment.
PA efficiency over 40% is industry leading. RRU adopts passive thermal dissipation design, so it is noiseless and power saving.
Adopting standard Micro-TCA architecture, with 2U in height and 19 inches in width, BBU is the smallest in the industry.

Industry-leading Solutions, Stronger Competitiveness
Perfect User Experience, Overwhelming Market Competition
Facing the increasingly grown market demands on mobile data service, LTE will provide larger throughput, faster data rate and shorter delay to bring more users the better experience on high speed media service. ZTE elaborately researches:
ZTE LTE base station with the peak rate up to DL 300Mbs/UL 100Mbps. Suppose that download one piece of 5M MP3 song with 300Mbps rate, then the time needed is less than 0.5s; only several minutes needed for downloading one high-definition movie; even for popular large on-line games, the mobile terminals can easily cope with. LTE user can enjoy the same wideband experience with fixed wideband user under mobile state. CSL CEO said that: “such high speed and high quality service must attract users”.
Conclusion
Aiming to telecom market operation demand under new competition situation, ZTE LTE base station solution helps operators solve many problems at the time of LTE network deployment and operation and meet challenge in LTE era. ZTE will construct high quality LTE network jointly with more operators and bring totally new service experience for users.
