ZOOMs: ZTE Optimized Operation and Management System

The substantial growth of global mobile Internet users and data bandwidth places enormous pressure on the telecom network, much of it is caused by some low-value services, such as P2P, which occupies too much bandwidth. In order to improve user service experience, operators have to continually increase their investment in network expansion. How to better adjust operation and network architecture of Internet services has become more urgent.

ZOOMs (ZTE Optimized Operation and Management System) solution helps operators to precisely identify services, and understand network traffic distribution, service development and user preference. Thus, ZOOMs provides differentiated services of high quality, improves service innovation, allocates network resources and reduces CAPEX.

ZTE has launched ZOOMs solution that incorporates convergent, intelligent, broadband, and green concepts into DPI technique and PCC standard, helping operators to create an excellent data network.

ZOOMs solution includes the following 4 parts:

  • Intelligent Deep Packet Inspection Gateway xGW (inbuilt DPI)
  • Dynamic Policy and Charging Control (PCRF/SPR)
  • Intelligent User Behavior Analysis System (UBAS)
  • Mature Online/Offline Charging System (OCS/OFCS)

Highlights
  • Strong DPI Protocol Identification Capability
    Use dedicated DPI hardware index chip, to reduce performance degradation of GW system caused by DPI. GW performance degradation is less than 30% under DPI function.
    Use SPI, DPI, HPI and other packet inspection technologies. More than 300 types of protocols could be identified.
  • Enhanced DPI+PCC Dynamic Service Management and Control
    Enhanced PCC control based on DPI service inspection does not require the service system to provide AF triggering function. Enhanced DPI+PCC control reduces dependency on service system, and improves service control and charging flexibility.
  • Multi-Network Convergence Access and Management
    Conform to policy and charging control (PCC) architecture such as 3GPP PCC, 3GPP2 PCC, WiMAX PCC, and TISPAN RACS, and integrate PCRF/SPDF/x-RACF/PDF NEs defined by standards, which are adaptive to different networks.
    Provide standard and uniform interfaces for multiple network access, so as to realize uniform service management and control.
  • Overall Service Analysis System
    Distinguish users, services, and networks, analyze behavior features of networks and services, and help operators to have a better knowledge of network quality, service development, and user preference, and to quickly achieve fault localization and trouble shooting.
    Utilize advanced Data Mining or OLAP technologies to analyze massive data, so as to support customer care service, network O&M and market analysis departments.
  • Smooth Evolution
    ZOOMs uses uniform hardware platform, realizes system transformation by software upgrading, which brings convenience for smooth evolution to LTE/EPC network and protects existing network investment.
Application

Till 2011Q2, ZOOMs has already been deployed in dozens of countries, including China Mobile, HongKong CSL, Indonesia PT Smart, Germany KPN E-PLUS, Montenegro Telenor, Portugal ZAPP, Malaysia DiGi, French OMT, etc.
