ZTE FTTB Help Fiber In/ Copper Out Network in A Low TCO Way

Requirements
The development of fiber technique and rapid decline of fiber cost in the past few years has led to the development of PON system based on optical fiber. Fiber comes nearer and nearer to the end users has been recognized as the trend in the access layer network. This brings new challenges especially on construction mode to carriers. Carriers concern much about how to use the existing network resource, such as cables, wirings and power supply, how to  introduce  new technology to meet multiple and customized requirements.
With the development and maturation in technology, market, and industry chain, PON has many advantages on improving ARPU and saving TCO.
ZTE FTTB Solution
ZTE provide total solution and series of products for FTTx, meet the requirements of FTTH, FTTB, FTTO, FTTC and other scenarios. It is a solution of full service optical fiber access.
FTTB solution uses the existing network cooper cable resource; provides high bandwidth and multiple service access. Cables, cabinets, channels, cores, PVCs and rooms in the building or residential area can be reused to save construction cost, on the other hand, no need to rebuild network in the building, apartment and house make it easy to reduce complaint from users.
There are two modes for FTTB, one is FTTB+DSL and the other is FTTB+LAN, as shown below:

Figure FTTB Solution

  • FTTB+LAN
FTTB+LAN is a main solution for fiber coming to the end users. In this case, fiber core and uplink interfaces are saved. The cost of FTTB+LAN is much less than that of FTTH. On the user side UTP 5 is used for subscriber access, and the distance from ONU to the end users is less than 100 meters. In other cases ONU can provide E1 interfaces for PBX and leased line. In FTTB+LAN mode ONU is generally installed in the equipment room, basement or weak-current well in the building.
  • FTTB+DSL
FTTB+DSL is another main solution for fiber coming to the end users. In this case FTTB+Mini DSLAM is adopted to provide VDSL2/ADSL2+/SHDSL interfaces to the subscriber, and is very useful if there is only existing twisted-pair in the network. ONU can be placed in the equipment room, basement or weak-current well in the building, or in the outdoor cross-connection cabinet. For high buildings, there may be distribution box /cabinet in certain layer for convenient engineering.

Because the bandwidth to the users depends on the distance from ONU to the subscribers, different radius coverage can get to different maximum bandwidth; this feature can be used to provide individual bandwidth and market spreading.
ZTE provide different ODN deployment solutions according to both FTTB+LAN mode and FTTB+DSL mode, and have solutions to solve the problems of power supply, monitoring, management and engineering.
Customer Benefits

  • Using the existing network resource and save CapEx
ZTE FTTB solution use the existing twisted-pair or UTP 5 efficiently, no need re-wiring in residential area and building, this help save CapEx.
  • Lowest power consumption, heat dissipation and got high praise
The MDU used in FTTB+DSL has the lowest power consumption. Power consumption of single port, even the whole shelf is less than industry level, and got ‘Best Green Innovation’ award for low power consumption, low noise and high reliability.
  • Unified network management and easy for management and maintenance NetNumen system manages both OLT and ONU/ONT equipments to save manpower and maintenance cost.
  • Fit for the installation needs in kinds of environments
MDU can be installed in rack, corridor, wall-mounted, pole-mounted or in outdoor cabinets to save room cost.
  • Combine characteristics of PON, Ethernet, TDM and DSL technologies together, carriers are able to provide different bandwidth according to the requirement of the users for marketing reasons.
