Road to Sustainable Development for Network
—ZTE Assists Belarus SOLO in Its Fast Development

As the old fixed line operator in Belarus, SOLO has a serious shortage of network capacity, which restricts its user dvelopment. Cooperating with ZTE, SOLO improves network capacity with its new E-FTTX solution, lays a foundation for SOLO to develop new value-added users, and improves its market competitiveness.

Customer demand

With 20 years’development, SOLO is the fixed line operator in Belarus with the longest history. SOLO has begun its MAN construction since 2005. However, with the growth of subscribers, they have increasing needs in bandwidth. There is a serious shortage in network capacity. Small-capacity and BRAS meet a performance delimma. Besides, broadband service operation is only for Internet access and enterprise private service, so that it’s hard to develop new value-added service users. Facing the fierce market competition, SOLO realizes that the upgrade and innovation of the existing MAN has become an urgent need. The original traditional operation mode should be transitted to new comprehensive service operation mode. Besides IP core network expansion, we need to consider the capability of aggregation layer equipment, improve network access bandwidth, and develop multiple value-added services.

In the first half year of 2009, SOLO again expanded its MAN. It planned to build large-capacity broadband network with high performance supporting multiple services. It provides users with more value-added services by developing Triple Play, so as to attract more users, cover the network scale, and improve its competitiveness in the broadband market.

ZTE Solution

Strict Tests to Pick Out Excellent Products

To grab and occupy the market and realize the pre-set objectives, SOLO compares and screens the networking solutions proposed by the leading equipment vendors. After many communication and strict tests, SOLO is impressed by the new 59E series swtich promoted by ZTE. They think its high reliability, easy maintenance, and support for end-to-end MPLS can perfectly satisfy the customers’ needs. It can assist SOLO to reduce operation cost, improve flexibility and benefits of service deployment. Thus SOLO finally selects ZTE to cooperate with. It adopts ZTE 89 series + 89 series + 59E series + 29 series product in the new MAN expansion projects. 29 series switch is applied for access of terminal users. At customer nodes and aggregation nodes, 59E series is adopted to deploy ZESR ring protection to work with 89 series at core nodes to provide network redundancy reliability.

MPLS to EdgeBrand-new Service Experience

Considering network evolution and technology innovation, we take All-IP as the magic weapon in the future network. Compared with the traditional networking, All-IP solution can save more CAPEX and OPEX for the operators with more flexible networking. Based on the following facts, SOLO expects to build a MPLS to Edge network:

  • With not large network scale and not many aggregation nodes, Solo expects to develop L2/L3 VPN services and to provide bit stream leasing service.
  • MPLS can make it possible for coexistence of low-cost, Ethernet-based transport technology and the original traditional transportation technology (SDH and PDH). It can also carry the traditional networks such as ATM, FR or TDM, and guarantee service QoS.

Therefore, MPLS to Edge solution can well support SOLO to develop its new services, and help it to realize All-IP network objective to the best.

Customer Benefit

SOLO has experienced rapid development in its network scale since 2009. At the beginning of 2009 its subscribers reach 200,000, and increased by nearly 50% by far after one year’s development. The technical director of SOLO Vladimir Ivashkevich said, “With ZTE end-to-end solution we can perfectly satisfy the customers’ different network needs. We can provide customers with rich and easy network services. We believe ZTE will be our best partner in datacom field during our network transition period”.
