About Henan Telecom

Henan Telecom has 70% of national backbone network fibers in Henan Province, works as the toll tandem exchange for 4 northern provinces and owns the intelligent network platform for 10 northern provinces. It runs domestic and international fixed telecom networks (including local wireless loop), operates voice, data, image, multimedia communication and information services based on telecom network, conducts internal settling of international telecom service, carries out other services related to communication and information services, and engages in other services approved or allowed by the State.

Demand

• Full-service operation has higher requirements for network——CDMA 3G and fixed line services need the bearer network which has ultra large capacity, mulservice access and flexible dispatching.

Its original provincial backbone network used 32*2.5G WDM system and the channel utilization rate exceeded 50%, so the expension potential was limited. As 3G licenses were issued in China in the second half of 2008, the bearer network would need diverse services and large bandwidth capacity. It was urgent to build a large-capacity multservice network which could be interconnected with data equipment from other vendors and flexibly dispatch services.

Solution

• Green and intelligent All over OTN solution meets various demands

Henan Telecom tested many data transmission solutions, but they cannot meet its demands. ZTE proposed the industry-leading All over OTN solution. It can save 15% power consumption, access multiple data services, support multiple protections to assure high reliability and security, provide smooth upgrade to 800G and intelligent control plane, and satisfy the requirements for long-term service development to ensure investment return.

The network often needs to be interconnected with data equipment from other vendors. The interconnected services are GE, 10GE, 2.5G POS, SDH 2.5G, SDH 10G, etc. ZTE’s All over OTN solution can be interconnected with these services to ensure the full-service operation of Henan Telecom.

Benefit

• Henan Telecom saw rapid growth

After completion, the network ran well. Within half a year, 3G service rose and bandwidth demand increased. The bearer network expanded the bandwidth one more time and OTN channel utilization rate rised from 10% to 20%, but the network could still assure 80% bandwidth growth. Henan Telecom saw rapid growth and the number of CDMA 3G users ranked No. 12th nationally.

The OTN network covered many major cities. As the services grew, some cities expanded their capacity to enhance their competency in Henan market.

As ZTE’s equipment and solution performs well, this project led to a lot of cooperations between Henan Telecom and ZTE.
