CableTel is a major fixed-line operator and the largest cable operator in Bulgaria. The company was created in 2003 following the acquisition of the largest national cable operator in Bulgaria by a group of strategic US investors. CableTel’s own network covers countries and regions like Bulgaria, Romania, Serbia, Macedonia and Albania. With strong regional competitive advantages, CableTel plans to build the biggest transmission network around Balkan Peninsula in next few years.
CableTel hopes to build network to cope with competition pressure
In 2006, CableTel was divided into two companies such as CableTel and GCN, both operating separately. As transmission networks were allocated to GCN, CableTel have to lease transmission network from GCN, leading to much higher operating cost and affecting the potential of development. In order to gain a foothold in the highly competitive market, CableTel is hoping to build the transmission network ideally fit itself first and foremost.
ZTE low-cost solution helps CableTel build national network
In their first cooperation in 2005, ZTE deployed the national DWDM backbone for CableTel. Covering Bulgaria’s territory, the network was built with ZTE ZXWM M900 large-capacity backbone WDM equipments and has been in stable operation since its completion, gaining approval from CableTel. Undergone several capacity expansions to its service wavelengths, the WDM backbone network is currently operated and maintained by GCN.
In May 2007, CableTel launched tender for Bulgaria’s national SDH tranmission network to mutiple vendors. With thorough understading of the status quo of CableTel network, ZTE delivered a total solution and transmission equipments, taking into account CableTel’s network construction cost. The complete solution and low construction cost ideally fit CableTel’s service demands and won the favor of CableTel. CableTel’s decision to choose ZTE Corporation to build the backbone network also contributed to the success of ZTE’s work with CableTel in 2005. The project employed ZXMP S390, ZTE’s next generation high-end transmission equipment, in bulk in networking. ZXMP S390’s salient features include super large network capacity, perfect and smooth upgradeability and good maintainability.
Outstanding network performance delivers huge growth for services
The Bulgarian SDH national network built by ZTE Corporation covered ten or more large and medium-sized cities like the Capital Sofia, Bulgaria’s ancient city and second-largest city Plovdiv, Bulgaria’s largest seaport Varna, and the beach resort on black sea Dobrich. On complete, the network can provide large-capacity and high bandwidth transmission channels to cope with multi-service transport requirements, boosting CableTel’s ability in service development. Strong growth of CableTel’s services creates requirement for capacity expansion of SDH national network. Considering the high stability of SDH national network and the longstanding partnership with ZTE Corporation, CableTel has appointed ZTE to build the next DWDM backbone network.
